Volvo, Mack Recall Electric Trucks Amid Fire Risks

Volvo Trucks North America and Mack Trucks are recalling most battery-powered electric trucks manufactured over the last four years, spurred by a battery fire risk. This marks the fourth recall since these trucks' 2022 series production, impacting 173 Volvo and nine Mack vehicles constructed between April 2019 and February 2023. The root of this recall is an over-torquing issue of buss bars, which could lead to battery pack debris and subsequently, a potential fire. On July 5, a battery fire was detected in a single Akasol Gen 3 battery shipped to Volvo. Although there are no known field instances of this problem, roughly 15% of the recalled trucks are suspected to have this defect. Both companies aim to notify customers by September 15.
