Spicy Catch: $10.7 M in Meth Hidden in Jalapeño Peppers

At Pharr International Bridge in Texas. U.S. Customs officers found more than just a fiery crunch in a jalapeño pepper shipment.

On October 14, the shipment, coming from Mexico via a tractor-trailer, was stopped for a routine check. With the help of non-intrusive inspection equipment and a keen canine team, officers found something unexpected: 9,426 packages containing 1,205 pounds of methamphetamine. The street value? A spicy $10.7 million.

The narcotics, alongside the tractor trailer, were promptly seized. Homeland Security Investigations has since initiated a criminal investigation.
