Over the past three years, the trucking industry has lost more than 100,000 drivers due to positive marijuana tests, according to a new study by the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI). As the legalization of recreational marijuana use grows in the US, the trend of driver losses is expected to continue, causing a further shortage in an already strained workforce. The ATRI report highlights the need for a nationally recognized marijuana impairment test and standards in the event of federal legalization, to safeguard employers in safety-sensitive industries.
