Employee Sentenced to Five Years For Trucking Payroll Fraud

Sentencing has moved forward in a case on a payroll fraud scheme that ended up costing over $1.4 million.
The Mastermind: Veronica Rios, an administrative assistant at Texas Chrome Transport and MJR Truck Lines, led the charge. She got a hefty 63-month prison sentence for her role.
The Accomplices: Six co-defendants, including coworkers and friends, received probation after plea deals.
Here's the scoop:
Inside Job: Rios abused her payroll duties from 2017 to 2020, overpaying employees in exchange for kickbacks.
Big Bucks: Overpayments totaled more than $424,000 to one, over $140,000 to another, and significant sums to several others, including non-existent employees added to the payroll.
Getting Caught: Their operation relied on "interstate wire communications," which landed them in federal court.
The Fallout
The total hit to the trucking companies was a staggering $1,407,392.43. This scheme was a major fraud that led to significant losses for the companies.
