On January 3, 2024, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Ysleta Port of Entry Cargo Facility in El Paso, Texas, made a significant narcotics seizure, intercepting a substantial amount of illegal drugs.
Details of the Seizure:
A 56-year-old Mexican male driving a box truck was referred for a detailed inspection upon arriving from Mexico.
Inspection methods included a canine team and non-intrusive x-ray examination.
Key Findings: Officers discovered 64 bundles of cocaine, weighing a total of 172.6 pounds.
Estimated Value: The cocaine has a street value exceeding $5.5 million.
BP's Response and Impact:
CBP seized the narcotics and vehicle.
CBP Ysleta Port Director Arnoldo Gomez highlighted the importance of officer expertise, canine assistance, and technology in effective contraband control.
